ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court’s detailed verdict in Asghar Khan case also includes a statement and a hand written diary of Brigadier (retd) Hamid Saeed Akhtar, providing details of accounts and list of those who received money, Geo News reported on Thursday.
According to the details Abdul Hafeez Peerzada, Sibghatullah Pir Pagara, former Sindh chief minister Muzaffar Hussain Shah, former Sindh home minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Ghulam Ali Nizamani, Takbeer’s former editor in-chief Salahuddin, former caretaker prime minister Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi, former prime minister Muhammad Khan Junejo and Yousuf Harron were given Rs3 million, Rs20, million, Rs600,000, , Rs200,000, Rs 300,000, Rs300,000, Rs5 million, Rs2.5 million and Rs0.5 million respectively.
Six accounts were opened in different banks on the directives of then director general Military Intelligence (MI). An amount of Rs30 million had been withdrawn from GHQ’s funds on the directives of them army chief Gen (retd) Aslam Beg during last days of his service. The money was transferred into the account of Beg’s organization named ‘Friends’.
Lt. Gen (retd) Asif Nawaz had expressed resentment over the transfer of the amount to the ‘Friends’.
A three judge-bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry issued the 150-page detailed verdict into the petition filed by Air Marshall (retd) Asghar Khan in 1996.
