AHMEDABAD: Openers Alastair Cook and Nick Compton showed a great fight back after England were enforced a follow-on by India on the third day of the first Test here at the Sardat Patel Stadium in Motera on Saturday.
When the play ended on third day, England were 111 for no wicket after they were all out for 191 in the first innings giving India a huge lead of 330 runs.
Cook made 74 not out and Compton was unbeaten on 34.
Earlier, left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha captured five wickets for 45 and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin bagged three for 80 as England were dismissed for 191 in reply to India’s first innings total of 521 for eight declared.
Except wicketkeeper Matt Prior (48) and opener Cook (41), no other batsman could make any significant contribution for England .
