Judicial officers allowed to become part of polling process

ISLAMABAD: The National Judicial Policy-making Commission (NJPMC) Saturday gave go-ahead to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to appoint judicial officers as Returning Officers (ROs), Geo News reported.
An NJPMC meeting held under the chair of Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry here consented to ECP’s request after due deliberation.
According to sources, though, judicial officers have been allowed to become a part of the voting process, but they will not be working under the organizational staff at the polling stations.
Earlier, the ECP had requested NJPMC that it needed the services of the officers at the polling stations in the upcoming elections.
The secretaries of ECP and Law and Justice Commission as well as chief justices of all five high courts and Federal Shariah Court attended the meeting.
