PALLEKELE: New Zealand set a modest target of 175 runs for hosts Sri Lanka in the first Super Eights match of the ICC World Twenty20 Cricket 2012 here at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
Batting first, after captain Ross Taylor won the toss, New Zealand made 174 runs for seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Opener Rob Nicol top scored with 58 while his partner Martin Guptill scored 38.as both provided a good start of 57 in 7.3 overs.
However, no other batsman except Brendan McCullum (25) and Taylor (23) could get into double figures.
For Sri Lanka, off-break bowler Akila Perera and paceman Nuwan Kulasekara claimed two wickets each.
