Arsalan iftakhar case

Editor-in-Chief of Online as well as weekly Pulse magazine Mohsin Jameel Baig has said that he will not succumb to any pressure in defence of his case in Supreme Court.

Talking to a private TV channel, Baig said that he neither committed contempt of any judge nor did he write against the judiciary. “The article in question was about an e-mail from Registrar Supreme Court Dr Faqir Hussain to a prime witness in the Malik Riaz versus Arsalan Iftikhar case”, he added.

According to the Editor-in-Chief, writing about Registrar does not fall under the preview of contempt law. “On the other hand the honourable Supreme Court has charged me and my other colleague with the contempt of court”, Mohsin Baig deplored.

He claimed that the registrar is the retired civilian official of Supreme Court, who has been able to avail extensions twice besides the one who bought and sold sizeable property in Bahria Town and made a plenty of money out of it.

"Almost everybody was stained in Bahria Town case, but only Faqir Hussain managed to get the piece of cake" He said, vowing to come up with proofs of these fresh allegations against the registrar of the Supreme Court.

Expressing the fact that freedom of press had full constitutional support and protection, he said that "PULSE" had stressed on getting the controversial e-mails checked by any official or private firms/departments; while also saying that response to notice by Supreme Court was submitted twice, only to be returned by Supreme Court, but eventually admitted at third try, and decision to have it investigated from external sources.

To a question, he said that his request to probe the e-mail in question by any of the forensic expert or authority went simply unheard of. His grievance was that a charge has already been framed against him and his magazine with the assumption that he fabricated the e-mail, which is against the spirit of justice.

“Framing the charge without any cyber investigation (merely based on opinion of the registrar’s subordinate) it seems that the entire judiciary was out to protect its favourite superannuated registrar”, he added.
