Asha Bhosle’s daughter commits suicide by shooting herself

MUMBAI: Varsha Bhosle, the daughter of legendary Indian singer Asha Bhosle, committed suicide in Mumbai allegedly by shooting herself.

Police said Varsha, who was 56 years old, shot herself with her licensed revolver in her Pedder Road residence and died on the spot.

No suicide note was found but Ms Bhosle was believed to be suffering from depression and had been hospitalized a few weeks ago after a suspected overdose of sleeping pills.

Her body has been sent for a post-mortem and a case of accidental death has been registered by the Mumbai police, police said.

She was married to a sports writer and was a divorcee.

Varsha Bhosle was a columnist with web portal Rediff. She previously wrote for The Sunday Observer and The Times Of India. She was also a theatre personality, sang playback for some Hindi and Marathi films and performed in concerts with her mother.
